What's In Your Collection?

October 9, 2023

Most of my home is pure white aside from the art: The walls are white, the floor is white, the countertops are white. I do this because art is the most important thing for me. I want to wake up and look at all the beauty that surrounds me. What do I see when I wake up? Well, I gaze at this fabulous melting disco ball sculpture by Rotganzen. A melting disco ball? YES! I've followed @rotganzen on Instagram for years. I adore their over-the-top creations like the vintage vacuum sucking up a deflated disco ball. The humor makes me smile, the craftsmanship is top notch and the art is worth every penny. Yes, it's pricey. I saved up for a while to get this piece. I even saw knock-offs on Etsy and Chairish. But I didn't want a knock off. It would be meaningless for me. I wanted to invest in the artist that pioneered this design. I wanted something that would last and I wanted to remember how long it took to save up for this piece. So, now I wake up super early, while it's still dark. I don't actually see the disco ball sparkle until about 11am. That's when the sun shines into the window as it passes overhead from east to west. The reflections cover the walls in my bedroom and I smile. ...and that's what makes me happy.

Tell me. Why do you collect?
